      物体在引力场中自由运动时有质量而不表现重量的一种状态,又称零重力。失重有时泛指零重力和微重力环境。失重是空间飞行环境的重要环境因素之一。利用飞机作抛物线飞行或利用自由落体原理设计的失重塔只能提供短暂的失重。航天器在环绕地球运行或在行星际空间航行中处于持续的失重状态。在环绕地球运行的轨道上,实际上只有航天器的质心处于零重力,其他部分由于它们的向心力与地球引力不完全相等而获得相对于质心的微加速度,这称为微重力状态。航天器上轨道控制推进器点火、航天员的运动、电机的转动以及微小的气动阻力等都会使航天器产生微加速度。因此,航天器所处的失重状态严格说是微重力状态。航天器旋转会破坏这种状态。在失重状态下,人体和其他物体受到很小的力就能飘浮起来。长期失重会使人产生失重生理效应。失重对航天器上与流体流动有关的设备有很大影响。利用航天失重条件能进行某些在地面上难以实现或不可能实现的科学研究和材料加工,例如生长高纯度大单晶,制造超纯度金属和超导合金以及制取特殊生物药品等。失重为在太空组装结构庞大的航天器提供了有利条件。
