   漆树科漆树属落叶乔木。因产生漆而得名。除主产品生漆外,木材耐腐耐湿,少见虫害,宜作桩木、坑木、家具等用材;漆树果实的中果皮含有漆脂,是制造肥皂的优良原料;漆仁油为不干性油,是油漆工业原料,也可供食用;叶、花、果实和干漆均可入药。
   原产中国,在陕西、湖北、四川 、贵州 、云南和甘肃6个省分布最多 。垂直分布一般在海拔100~2500米之间 ,以400~2000米分布最多。
   根据形态特征、生漆的产量和质量特点 ,全国约有40多个品种,其中优良的约10余个品种,如:阳高小木、灯台小木、大红袍、阳高大木和高八尺。漆树的树高可达20米。小枝粗壮,具圆形或心形的大叶痕和突起的皮孔。一回奇数羽状复叶  ,互生 ,卵形或长椭圆形 。圆锥花序 ,腋生 ,花小 ,单性异株或单性花与两性花共存,黄绿色。果序下垂,核果肾形或椭圆形,外果皮黄色,果核棕色,坚硬(见图)。树皮和叶中具白色乳液,含漆酚等物质。较喜光,不耐庇荫,适宜生长于背风向阳而又湿润的环境,同时在其生长发育形成漆液的过程中   常需要较多的水分和较高的热量   在疏松 、肥沃  、湿润  排水良好的砂质壤土上生长最适   对酸性土、中性土适宜,在钙质土上生长者割漆早,收益快,但漆的质量不如酸性土上者好。播种育苗对种子采用开水烫种,碱水脱脂,浸泡种壳,温水催芽的方法。然后用撒播或条播,埋根育苗一般在立春后。春季是主要的造林季节,但春季干旱多风的地区宜采用秋季造林。漆树萌芽力强,当采漆多年的大树树势衰退时,可进行萌芽更新。
