| 鄱阳湖 中国最大的淡水湖。在江西省北部，长江南岸。古称彭蠡、彭泽。湖盆是一个由南向北倾斜的古赣江下游河谷盆地，以后潴水形成鄱阳湖 。湖面高程21米，湖水面积3583平方千米，最大水深16米，蓄水量达248.9亿立方米。鄱阳湖南宽北狭，形似葫芦，以都昌和吴城之间的松门山为界，以北称北湖，由于它位于整个湖体的西北，又称西鄱湖；松门山以南称南湖，又称东鄱湖，是鄱阳湖的主体。除直接接受大气降水补给外，承纳南、东、西三面的赣、抚、信、鄱、修五大江河以及很多独流的来水 ，湖水从北面通过仅800多米的狭窄水道注入长江。年平均入湖水量1500亿立方米。由于鄱阳湖地势略高于长江，因而长江水很难倒灌入湖，长江泥沙对它的影响甚小。鄱阳湖容积大，汇入鄱阳湖的水，经过它的调节，一般可削减峰量的15％～30％，湖水缓缓注入长江，减轻洪水对长江下游的威胁。 清代后期，由于围湖造田，使湖面日趋缩小，1949年湖泊面积为5200平方千米 ，1980年缩减到3960平方千米，30年内缩减了24％。湖泊缩小，年内水位变化大。鄱阳湖年平均水位为15.22米（康山水位站，吴淞基面），年内水位变化幅度多在5米以上。每年3～7月，降水丰沛，入湖水量多，湖水面积达4000平方千米；秋冬降水稀少，水位下降，洲滩裸露，水流归槽，仅剩几条蜿蜒的航道，湖水面积不到1000平方千米，显示出枯水一线，洪水一片的水情特征。鄱阳湖水域开阔，港汊众多，水温适度，春、夏、秋3季，水温都在13～30℃之间，年平均水温17℃，适宜鱼类发育生长，丰富的水草，繁多的浮游生物，为鱼类提供了天然的饵料。鱼类资源极为丰富，盛产鲤、鳙、鲢、鲫、鲥等鱼类。水生植物中的莲、藕、菱、芡也远近闻名。湖区周围水网密布，土壤肥沃，是江西省粮食、棉花、油料和生猪的重要生产基地。1983年，建立鄱阳湖国家自然保护区。
