结构式为CH3(CH2)2CH3，分子量86．17。无色透明易挥发液体。相对密度(20 ℃／4℃)0.659，凝固点-951. 3．℃ 沸点68．70 ℃，闪点(开口)-22℃，燃点260 ℃，折射率 1．37506，粘度(25℃)0.307mPas，溶解度参数δ=7．2。易溶于 乙醚、丙酮、氯仿、可溶于乙醇(50／100g乙醇)。难溶于水，15．5℃ 100g水溶解0.0138g。易燃，蒸气能与空气形成爆炸性混合物，爆 炸极限1．2％-6．9％(vol)。低毒，接触皮肤和眼睛会引起炎症。吸入蒸气可刺激上呼吸道粘膜。吸入高浓度可麻醉神经，引起中毒，严重时会造成麻痹：甚至瘫痪。空气中最高容许浓度0.05％。
用作溶剂和稀释剂，具有快干低毒特点。
