Macaca;macaques
    灵长目猿猴亚目狭鼻组猴科猕猴属的通称。体型变化大,体长34.5~70厘米,体重可达 18 千克;有的几乎无尾,有的尾长达 68.6 厘米;有颊囊;体毛大部为一种颜色,或黑,或褐,或灰棕色,腹面色较淡;头顶毛发有的很短,形似平顶,有的较长,从头顶中央分别倒向两边,或者从头顶中央呈放射状旋向四周 ,也有的形成孤立的一块 ,像一顶小帽;四肢几乎等长。约16~19种,主要分布在亚洲东部、南部及其岛屿。栖息于热带雨林和亚热带季雨林,也有的生活于温带的针阔叶混交林。树栖、地栖或居住在多岩石地区。取食植物的花、果、叶、芽和树皮、草根等,亦食昆虫和甲壳类,喜食小鸟和鸟蛋。结群生活,每群10~70只。猕猴群体中分严格的等级。5岁左右性成熟,每胎1仔。在热带地区全年繁殖。白天活动,夜晚蹲坐在大树横枝上、岩壁上、或石洞中睡觉。猕猴类是重要的实验动物,是进行生理学、心理学 、病理学、病毒学及行为学等方面研究的理想材料。
