等温压缩（isothermalcompression）
气体温度在压缩的过程中保持不变称为等温压缩。在理想情况下，可看成是可逆压缩过程。工程上的处理为压缩机加水冷却系统，经压缩后的高温气体经过冷却水，把压缩热给冷却水带走，在等温压缩中，气体的熵变小，这也是气体制冷和液化的最关键一步。
在温度T下将气体从状态1等温压缩到状态2，压机做功W，冷却水带走压缩热Q，焓的变化为H2-H1，可得H2-H1=W-Q则
Q=W (H2-H1)
气体的熵降为`S_2-S_1=\frac{Q}{T}=\frac{W (H_1-H_2)}{T}`。所以此时可通过等熵膨胀或等焓膨胀来降温以达到制冷的目的。
