    原子中电子自旋-轨道相互作用引起的原子能级的多重分裂结构。通常在一些较轻元素中,这种分裂是精细的,对重元素这种分裂较大。原子中自旋与轨道相互作用,不同的自旋方向引起能量的改变。单电子情形,电子自旋!!!J1416_1,有两个取向,一般能级分裂为两个,能级的精细结构是双重的;两个价电子情形,总自旋S=0和1,对应的能级精细结构是单态和三重态;同理,3个价电子情形,能级精细结构是双重态和四重态,等等。精细结构的能级裂距与原子序数的平方成正比,与表征精细结构的精细结构常数a的平方成正比。精细结构能级间隔遵从朗德间隔定则,相邻的能级间隔之比同有关的两个总角动量即J值中较大的J值成正比。由此可以确定原子是否属于LS耦合。原子能级的精细结构使得原子跃迁时发出的光谱线也具有精细结构。研究光谱线的精细结构,可获得原子内部自旋-轨道相互作用的信息。
