俄罗斯新研制的“孔雀石”便携式自动火控系统可大幅度增加对小型目标的瞄准距离，例如，对坦克在白天的瞄准距离为5-7千米，在夜间时的瞄准距离为4千米。此外，该系统对较大地面目标和海上目标的瞄准距离可达15千米。
“孔雀石”系统的重量为30.5千克(在配备热成像仪时的重量为42千克)，可由三人携行。其组成部件中除了激光目标指示与测距仪外，还包括热成像瞄准具、电子操控台、卫星导航信号接受机和数字化电台等。
借助俄罗斯“格洛纳斯”系统或美国gps系统提供的导航信号，“孔雀石”可自动确定目标的坐标并提供必要的射击诸元，使己方炮兵准备火力打击的时间缩短90%以上。
