固体材料中与特定位置相关，具有特定能量的电子态。当一个电子占据此状态时，它被束缚于具有特定能量的特定位置附近。无序固体中由于周期性被破坏，将产生带尾局域态。材料中的缺陷态或施主、受主杂质上的电子态，或强掺杂半导体中的带尾态也都是局域态。存在局域态是无序的标志。局域态电子的迁移必须通过跳跃（hopping）发生。
