性质:岩石中微量放射性铀、钍(主要是238U)除了放射性衰变外,还能自发裂变成两个(偶尔也形成三个)质量相等的碎片,同时放出2至3个中子,此过程对周围介质产生的辐射损伤称为裂变径迹。在地质时间内务种介质在封闭温度以下和相同铀含量条件下的径迹密度是时间的函数。因此,裂变径迹可用于测定地质体的年龄,这种测年方法称为裂变径迹法。
