| 半乳糖 galactose 一种单糖，分子式C5H11O5CHO。是哺乳动物的乳汁中乳糖的组成成分，从蜗牛、蛙卵和牛肺中已发现由D-半乳糖组成的多糖。它常以D-半乳糖苷的形式存在于大脑和神经组织中，也是某些糖蛋白的重要成分。半乳糖在植物界常以多糖形式存在于多种植物胶中，例如红藻中的K-卡拉胶就是D-半乳糖和3，6-内醚-D-半乳糖组成的多糖。游离的半乳糖存在于常青藤的浆果中。半乳糖为白色晶体。α型和β型半乳吡喃糖的熔点均为167℃，比旋光度分别为［ a ］D1＋150.7°→＋80.2°（水），[a]D＋52.8°→＋80.2°（水）。溶于水和乙醇，微溶于甘油，半乳糖可用于有机合成，医药上用于测定肝功能等。
