由整块毛坯加工制成的大型构件所组成的结构。常用的构件有整体加劲壁板、整体梁、整体肋和整体隔框等，甚至还有整体翼面和整体箭身。与常用的铆接结构的大量铆接组装工艺相比，整体结构仅由少量大块整体构件拼合，装配要简单得多。由于减少了连接零件，整体结构重量较轻，外表光滑，飞行阻力小；而且接缝少，密封性好，更适用于飞机增压座舱和整体油箱。整体结构虽比铆接结构有这些优点，但是生产整体结构的设备投资大,制造技术要求高,故成本较高；热处理时均匀淬火也有困难，因此整体结构的应用受到限制。整体结构的几何尺寸配置和总体受力基本上与铆接结构相同，都属于薄壁结构。但是，由于它的整体性特点，各部分连接刚度比铆接结构大，因而整体结构的各种失稳临界值都有所提高。此外，由于没有铆钉孔或螺钉孔，承拉面积未受削弱，且应力集中减小。在结构重量相同的条件下，整体结构的强度和疲劳寿命都比铆接结构更高，但在形成疲劳裂纹后，制止裂纹扩展的能力较差。
