    人工合成的能调节植物的生长、分化、发育的化学物质。其中许多种类的结构及作用与天然植物激素相似。另一些如生长延缓物质,化学结构和生理作用与天然激素无明显关系。广义的生长调节物质也包括天然植物激素。
   由于植物激素含量极微,分离提取手续繁复,要耗用大量植物材料和有机溶剂,成本过高,一般不用于制备。
   生长调节物质的作用常与天然激素相似,如催熟、促进生根、疏花疏果(促进离层形成)等。但曾经在除草剂用量中占很大比重的2,4-D和2,4,5-T都是使用严重干扰正常生理活动以致杀死植物的浓度,这在自然状态下的天然激素作用中是不会出现的。
   农业上对生长调节物质的应用与否,由经济效益的高低来决定。如生长素类似物对棉花个别花涂抹能抑制脱落,但花费劳力太多,经济效益不高。至于花卉、果树、药用植物等经济作物,生产上具有劳力密集和技术密集的特点,允许采用较细致的操作方式,用生长调节物质调节器官分化、发育以增加产量和提高品质的余地很大。特别是在组织培养中,常以不同的激素种类和浓度或其组合,调节培养中的组织分化和生长。
   常用的植物生长调节物质有:2,4-D、吲哚丁酸、2,4,5-T、萘乙酸、苯氧乙酸、2甲-4氯、激动素、6-BA、乙烯利、MH、矮壮素、矮健素、B9、调节膦等。
