[形态特征与分布]

沉水草本,冬芽繁殖。茎多分枝,长达2米。叶膜质,(2)3-8枚轮生,线形或线状长圆形,长10-15毫米,宽1-3毫米,无柄,先端锐尖,边缘有细锐锯齿,两面有红褐色小斑点。花小,雌雄异株,雄花单生于叶腋中,近无柄,球形,包于刺状的佛焰苞内,萼片3,雄蕊3,成熟后脱离叶腋,浮上水面,破裂放出花粉;雌花单生于叶腋,包于2齿裂的管状佛焰苞内,伸出水面开放,萼片3,凸形,花瓣3,长约3毫米,较萼片狭,稍短或等长,子房下位,圆柱形,1室,柱头3。果线形,有种子1-3粒;种皮细胞四方形,呈网格状。花期7-8月,果期8月。

生于水泡、河流及湖泊中。分布于我国及欧、亚、非和大洋洲等广大地区。
