铝土矿
bauxite

   以含水氧化铝为主、成分可变的天然多矿物混合物。主要由极细的三水铝石、软水铝石、硬水铝石和数量不等的粘土矿物、赤铁矿、针铁矿、石英等混合而成。含Al2O3量约40%~75%,是提炼铝的最主要矿石;也用来制取Al2O3,可作为磨料以及耐火材料。常呈豆状产出,但也呈块状、多孔状、土状等,随成因不同而异。颜色随氧化铁含量的增加,可呈白、灰直至棕红色,有时不同色彩呈斑点状分布。硬度和比重均较小,并随矿物组成不同而变化。铝土矿是由其母岩在湿热气候条件下经红土化作用而形成。由火成岩或变质岩形成的一般属红土型矿床,以三水铝石为主;由石灰岩或白云岩形成的,则属钙红土型,通常含有相当数量的软水铝石。风化壳铝土矿经剥蚀搬运,可形成沉积铝土矿。铝土矿分布广泛,法国的博奥是著名的重要产地;主要出产国有苏里南、牙买加、圭亚那等;中国广西、贵州、河南、山东等省也有广泛分布。
