月见草，又名草本夜来香。花朵大，初为金黄色，后期渐变为艳红色，黄昏时开放，天明闭合，具浓香，花期6-9月。经花不仅有良好的观赏价值，而且有较高的经济价值和药用价值。
月见草习性强健，栽培容易，管理简便。性喜阳光和肥沃土壤。将其栽在疏松肥沃而又排水良好的沙壤土中则生长良好。北方地区，于4月上中旬播种，出苗后经1次移植，于6月上中旬进行定植。定植缓苗后进行1次摘心，促使其分枝和植株矮化，多开花。生长期间，每月施1-2次液肥。生长期以氮肥为主，孕蕾期以磷钾肥为主。月见草较耐旱，但不耐涝。土壤表层见干时要及时浇水。每次浇水后都要适时进行中耕除草，以利保墒和通气，促使植株生长健壮。在长江流域温暖地区，月见草可露地越冬。一般宜于10月播种，入冬时将幼苗移植阳畦内越冬，春天定植。二年生栽培的，开花要比一年生栽培者多。扦插毓宜在春夏间进行，约一个月左右生根发芽，上盆成活后约80-90天，便可见花。
