别名 甘葛，粉葛，葛藤，葛条根。
来源 为豆科植物野葛Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi的干燥根。
原植物形态 多年生落叶藤本，全株被黄褐色粗毛。块根肥厚圆柱状。三出复叶互生，托叶盾状着生，卵状长椭圆形；顶生小叶菱状圆形，侧生小叶斜卵形。总状花序腋生或顶生，花冠蓝紫色或紫色，蝶形，雄蕊10，二体；子房线形，花柱弯曲。荚果线形，密被黄褐色长硬毛。种子卵圆形，赤褐色，有光泽。花期4～8月，果期8～10月。
药材性状 完整的多呈圆柱形。商品常为斜切、纵切、横切的片块，大小不等。表面褐色，具纵皱纹，粗糙。断面粗糙，淡黄褐色，隐约可见1～3层同心环层。质坚实，纤维性强。气微，味微甜。
生境分布 生于山坡、路边草丛中及较阴湿的地方。除新疆西藏外，全国大部分地区均有分布。
采收加工 春、秋季采挖，除去杂质，洗净，润透，切厚片，晒干。
性味归经 甘、辛，凉。归脾、胃经。
功能主治 解肌退热，生津，透疹，升阳止泻。用于外感发热头痛、项背强痛，口渴，消渴，麻疹不透，热痢，泄泻；高血压颈项强痛。
用量用法 煎服，9～15g。退热生津宜生用，升阳止泻宜煨用。
化学成分 含黄酮类、三萜类、香豆素等。
药理作用 抗心肌缺血、抗心律失常、扩张血管、改善微循环作用；有抗氧化、降血糖、降血脂等作用。
