性质:气体向真空膨胀的过程。“自由”二字是指膨胀时气体不受外界阻碍,所以气体不对环境做功,即-W=0.1843年,焦耳曾设计一套使气体向真空膨胀的仪器。焦耳发现,气体在膨胀前后温度没有变化,因而没有自环境吸入或放出热,即Q=0。根据热力学第一定律可知,气体在膨胀过程中△U=Q+W=0。所以焦耳实验(Joule’s experiment)得出以下结论,在自由膨胀中,气体的内能不变;或者说,气体的内能与体积无关,只与温度有关。后来精确的实验证明,焦耳的结论只对理想气体才是正确的。
