性质:又称低聚肽。2至10个氨基酸通过肽键联结形成的肽。由组成的氨基酸数又可分别称为二肽、三肽、……十肽等。肽的命名通常从具有游离氨基末端开始向具有游离羧基末端按氨基酸残基的排列顺序命名。如脑啡肽,H-Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-OH可命名为酪氨酰甘氨酰甘氨酰苯丙氨酰甲硫氨酸。对于氨基酸顺序已确定者在氨基酸残基的三字母或单字母缩写间以短划相连,尚有部分序列未确定者则在此片段外加括号,残基间加逗号表示,如Glu-Lys-(Ala,Gly,Thr)-His-Ala。除蛋白质的部分水解可以产生寡肽外,自然界还有长短不等的游离寡肽,它们各具特殊的生理功能,如谷胱甘肽、多肽类激素、多肽类抗生素等。
