栈桥位于青岛市区中山路南端海边。当海轮缓缓驶近青岛港口时,首先映入眼帘的就是那深入海中的长堤栈桥。

栈桥是青岛的标志,它始建于清光绪十六年(1891年),清政府在这里修建了供海军码头使用的木桥。1931年经过改建,栈桥全部使用巨大的花岗石砌成,全长440米,宽10米。栈桥两边有铁链护栏和莲花路灯。栈桥的尽头建有三角形防波堤,呈“个”形,以减弱风浪的冲击。最南端处筑有一座钢筋混凝土双层双檐琉璃瓦覆顶的八角亭枣回澜阁。这座亭阁规模较大,装饰华丽,可登临远眺。

栈桥的北端两侧是绿草平铺,百花盛开的栈桥公园。栈桥的西厢,因风浪有了栈桥的阻拦,蔚蓝的海洋,显得平静柔和。盛夏季节里,这里的第六海滨浴场,游者云集。

栈桥不远的东南海上是小青岛,它又名“琴岛”。有海堤与海岸连接。岛上山岩耸秀,林木长青,故名“小青岛”。岛上建有白色灯塔一座,入夜,导航的灯光一明一暗,灯影与波光交相辉映,构成一幅奇妙有趣的夜景。
