简介
中西区发展历史悠久，可谓是汉人政权在台湾的发源地，加上面积较小，区内古迹密度极多，若经过路线规划，则非常适合散步游览。民俗活动在本区内也常见，因为庙宇众多的原因。
本区住宅与商业区的区隔不明显，较知名的有中正路沿线商圈等。中正路商圈创立自日治时期，因海安路地下街之故，曾没落近十年，台南市政府极力改造，渐有回升迹象。但主要商业中心在此十年内，则已移转至台南车站附近。
中西区因历史开发最早、土地有限，加上历史悠久巷弄狭小，许多人口已迁至如东区或安平区等邻近新兴市区。
