训诂书中解说两个词声音相同，语义相通，往往称之为"一声之转"。 换言之， 就是有双声相转的关系。例如王念孙 《广雅疏证》解释 《释诂一上》"捞、略，取也"这一条时说："捞，通作劳。《齐语》'牺牲不略，则牛马遂。'《管子·小匡》篇作'牺牲不劳，则牛羊育'。劳、略一声之转，皆谓夺取也。"又《释诂四下》"蔫、菸、,葾也"一条,《疏证》说:"皆一声之转也。蔫者，《说文》：'蔫、菸也。'......菸者，《说文》：'菸，也。'......者，《说文》:'、病也。'《小雅·谷风》篇云：'无木不萎'。萎与亦同。《众经音义》卷十云：'今关西言菸，山东言蔫，江南言'。葾者,《玉篇》 云:'败也、萎葾也'。"捞略二字为来母双声字, 蔫、菸、、葾等字为影母双声字，所以《疏证》都分别说明是一声之转。由双声说明词义之相通，这是训诂学上很有用的一种方法，在郝懿行《尔雅义疏》中更为常见。 但是单纯用"一声之转"来说明语义相同或相近，那还是很不够的，最要紧的是要有书面上的佐证。佐证有两种，一是见于字书、训诂书，一是见于前人的文章内有明确的用例。如果不如此，随意立论，往往陷于错误。
