利用永久磁铁产生磁场的小型交流发电机﹐是汽油机点火系统中的点火电源。磁电机点火系统由开关﹑点火线圈﹑断电器﹑电容器﹑分电器和安全放电装置等组成﹐它产生高压电并分配给各气缸的火花塞。磁电机大多采用旋转磁铁式结构﹐按总体设计可分为单体式和飞轮式。单体式是将上述各部件做成一个整体﹐安装在内燃机上﹔飞轮式是将磁铁安装在内燃机飞轮上﹐其它各部件分别安装在内燃机上﹐大多用于单缸机。磁电机断电器大多采用机械触点式的﹐也可用晶体管式的。有些磁电机还装有一些附加的部件。 起动加速器﹕装在单体式磁电机上﹐起动时使磁电机在曲轴上止点附近时的角速度加大﹐以提高电压﹐保证发火。 离心式点火提前角调节装置﹕装在单体式磁电机上﹐可随转速升高而加大点火提前角。 有些磁电机附有单独线圈﹐作为照明供电之用。
