线性模型分析法用线性方程组或者线性不等式组，替代边际分析中的%26#8220;导数%26#8221;与%26#8220;偏导数%26#8221;，最典型的是列昂切夫(W. W. Leontief, 1941)发明的投入产出分析法。投入产出分析的实质是依据一般经济均衡理论来研究各种经济活动在数量上的相互关系，用一套线性方程组来描述经济系统内部复杂的结构关系。投入产出分析在1948%26#8212;1960年间得到了重大发展。
多尔夫曼(R. Dorfman)、萨缪尔森和索洛(R. M. Solow)1958年合著的《线性规划与经济分析》及盖尔(D. Gale)1960年著的《线性经济模型理论》两部书，把线性规划、线性一般经济均衡理论和线性经济增长理论发展到了顶峰。与此同时，对策论研究也在前进。纳什(J.F. Nash, 1950)对于n人对策均衡的研究，成为基础性工作；卢斯(R.D. Luce)和雷法(H. Raiffa)在1957年出版的《对策与决策》一书中又发展了动态对策论。
