(4′-Benzyloxyl)-benzoyl-dimethylsulfoxide was prepared by the reaction of ethyl 4-benzyloxybenzoate and dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of sodium hydride, followed by Pummerer reaction with acetic anhydride to afford 1-acetoxy-1-thiomethyl-(4′-benzyloxyl)-acetophenone, which reacts with p-toluenesulphonic acid to give the title compound.
