湖南省南部山地。"斑竹"产区。有灰岩发育的峰丛石山景观。山体盘亘于湖南省宁远县境以南，有舜源、娥皇、女英等九峰嶙峋耸秀。峰丛山体方圆约56.6平方公里，岭脊参差,海拔约500～800米,年均温约15℃，年降水量1600毫米，常有云雾缭绕。盛长林木，特别是湖南斑竹、方竹等各种竹类集聚成独特群落。斑竹于碧玉色杆皮上具紫色蝶旋状斑纹，斑斑如泪痕，因此斑竹亦称泪竹或湘妃竹。竹制品具实用、观赏价值。
