延长产品生命周期论研究技术生命周期日益缩短的条件下一国通过及时转移本国已处于成熟期的技术来延长产品的生命周期的理论。 该理论认为，随着科技革命深入发展，技术生命周期不断缩短，技术一旦接近成熟期就应及时向国外尚需要该项技术的国家或地区转移，让其继续发挥作用。这是因为，技术从生产、发展走向成熟，预示着技术的使用价值的扩大，如不能及时、充分地利用，则技术走向衰亡时其使用价值必将迅速减退，这就迫使技术创新者注重传播技术，尽量减少技术贬值带来的损失，以获得最佳经济利益。尤其是跨国公司的创新产品，更应利用技术转移而使产品生命周期在国际上延长，以实现长期性的利润最大化。在这种技术转移过程中，技术供受双方将均受其益。就供方而言，延长所拥有的某项技术的生命，无异于延长凭借该技术获取利润的期限。它还将为尽早使用更新的技术腾出必需的资源、时间和空间，从而能够促进更新技术的发展，增强自身的竞争优势。就受方而言，引进技术虽然要花代价，但比起自行研制仍有费时短、风险小的好处，在技术生命周期加快缩短的条件下，这样做有助于填补国内空白，缩小技术差距，赶超先进国家。
