欧洲委员会（EC）主持的一项历时3年称为Ultramelt（超声熔体）的项目，它希望在注塑成型时，通过超声波振动提高聚合物流动性，从而能够降低聚合物加工时的成本。它由4家欧洲塑料工业协会（英国聚合物机械制造商及销售商协会、丹麦塑料联盟、西班牙AVEP聚合物加工协会和意大利塑胶机械学会）以及其他相关的加工厂家和能量转换公司共同参与研发。Ultramelt的技术问题已经解决，不久便可在许可条件下使用，另外也适合用挤出法加工工艺。目前已经使用PE、PP和PS等材料试验成功，熔体粘度可减少40%-60%。Ultramelt技术可减少原料用量、缩短成型周期，从而降低了合模力和熔体温度，同时使得薄壁产品的加工变得容易，表面光洁度得以改善，热降解的风险也得到了降低 。
