珠江口中华白海豚保护区
经过广东省省级自然保护区评审委员会论证，由省政府上报国务院批准，广东省的珠江口中华白海豚自然保护区正式成为国家级自然保护区。
据专家介绍，中华白海豚曾经在北至长江口，向南延伸至浙江、福建、台湾、广东和广西海岸河口的广大水域里活动，而目前已萎缩在两个区域：珠江口和厦门的九龙江口。有关数据显示，估计珠江口有1000条左右的中华白海豚活动，而厦门水域的中华白海豚估计不足100条。 由于珠江口环境污染，白海豚的生存环境受到严重的威胁。1999年10月，广东省政府批准成立了珠江口中华白海豚省级自然保护区，划定珠江口伶仃洋里从内伶仃岛至牛头岛之间的460平方公里水域为保护区。这次珠江口中华白海豚自然保护区成为国务院新批准的29个国家级自然保护区之一，从而使广东省有了惠东国家级海龟自然保护区和珠江口国家级中华白海豚自然保护区2个国家级海洋野生动物保护区，全省的国家级自然保护区达到了9个。
为了做好白海豚保护区的工作，广东省将联合港澳三地力量，共同保护中华白海豚这一珍稀物种。
