所谓外贸服装，是指国内服装生产厂家根据国外来料来样或国外来样、国内选料加工的同时，在完成订单后剩余的那部分产品，包括从面料、规格、花色上看不大出毛病的残次品、多余或节省下来布料私自加工的及国外退货的但无残次的“出口转内销”服装。
这类服装款式规格往往是按照欧美人或者日本、韩国人的喜好，其款式往往超前于国内消费者的眼光，规格也不一定符合国人的身材特点，但是因其独特的外观、良好的面料、精细的做工、相对低廉的价格还是受到了不少国内消费者的喜爱。
“真正的外贸服装一般来源于出口服装生产企业。”一位谙熟外贸服装生意的老板告诉新新，外贸服装款式设计大多由客户提供，面料则根据客户的要求在国内选购或从国外进口。厂家在生产时，往往会比客户要求的数量多出几件，防止因为服装质量问题而造成的件额不足，但是这种多加工生产的服装数量不会太多。 更多的外贸服装则来自于出口之前经过多道严格的检验淘汰下来的“残次品”，这些服装大多都流向了外贸服装店。
一般，每款都只有2到3件，甚至一件，没有超过5件的。很少发生撞衫的事情哦1呵呵……偶尔有超过5件的，那么肯定存在一些不影响穿着的小瑕疵。
