性质:铅酸蓄电池的主要缺点是比能量低和需要定期维护。因此,新一代的设计在负极铅栅板中不用锑或少用锑,或者采用铅钙合金,以提高氢超电势,减少自放电;另外把负极设计成过量的,使过充电时只有正极出氧,它将被负极的铅逐渐吸收。由于减少了出气量,也就减少了水的损失,无需经常补水。故电池外壳可做成密封的,但仍留有泄气阀,供偶有压力过高时泄放气体。这种电池称为阀控铅酸蓄电池(valve regulated lead acid storage battery)较为合理,它对充电设备有较高的要求,必须限定电压(如低于1.32伏),否则仍有过量失水的问题。为了减轻重量,把传统的硬橡胶外壳改用ABS塑料;减少导电铅汇条的用量;用高度吸水的玻璃纤维膜替代原用隔板,以减少过量的电解液。采用以上措施后,电池的比能量可从-25瓦·小/千克提高至40-45瓦·小时/千克;电池有时也称为“免维护”(实为少维护)蓄电池(maintenance-free battery;MF battery)。参见铅酸蓄电池。
