又称跨膜静息电位。细胞未受刺激时存在于细胞内外两侧的电位差。在所有被研究过的动植物细胞中，静息电位都表现为膜内较膜外为负；如规定膜外电位为零，则膜内电位大都在-10～-100V之间。静息电位在大多数细胞是一种稳定的直流电位(一些有自律性的细胞如心肌和平滑肌细胞例外），只要细胞维持正常的新陈代谢而未受到外来刺激，静息电位就稳定在某一相对固定的水平。
