性质:一种空心球状的散状耐火材料。常见的有氧化铝空心球和氧化锆空心球。前者的氧化铝含量达99%以上,耐火度接近于2000℃,自然堆积密度为0.8~1.0 g/cm3,导热性很低。后者的二氧化锆和氧化钙的含量>99%,耐火度大于2400℃,导热性较低。氧化铝空心球以工业氧化铝为原料,用高功率(电压80~100V,电流1000A)电炉熔融成液态,再用压缩空气或蒸汽吹散成直径不等的空心球体。也可以用树脂等有机物制成球体,然后喷洒黏结剂,再在球壳上黏附一层氧化铝细粉,经干燥和烧成后,有机物烧失,壳体烧结成空心球。氧化锆空心球以工业氧化锆为原料,加少量(4%~6%)氧化钙作稳定剂,混合均匀,经电熔成熔液,用高压空气喷吹制成空心球体。这两种空心球均为耐高温的隔热材料,可作为制造隔热制品的原料或直接以散状料用作高温窑炉的隔热层。氧化铝空心球制品以70%的氧化铝空心球与30%的α-氧化铝细粉为原料,用硫酸铝溶液为结合剂,采用振动成型制成坯体,经干燥后,根据不同情况采用高温烧成或轻烧成制品。可作为直接与火焰接触的高温炉内衬、背袜、炉管、托盘、保护罩等。在1800℃下可长期使用。氧化锆空心球制品是将75%的不同粒度的氧化锆空心球、25%的氧化锆细粉,外加4%氧化钙细粉作稳定剂,以硼砂溶液作黏结剂,经混合、成型、干燥后,在高温下烧成。可用作超高温炉的炉衬和真空感应炉的填料,使用温度可达2200℃。
