      中国南宋时期朱熹与陆九渊进行学术辩论的一次会议。淳熙二年(1175),吕祖谦提议并出面约请朱、陆二人,在信州(今江西上饶市)鹅湖寺举行一次会晤,讨论为学异同,意在调和两人的矛盾。参加这一辩论的还有陆九渊兄长陆九龄等人。朱熹是理学的主要代表,在认识、修养方法上,主张"泛观博览而后归之约",即从博览群书和对外物的观察来启发对"理"的认识,强调的重点是"道问学";陆九渊根据"心即理"的原则,不赞成朱熹由博返约的方法,认为应该"先发明人之本心,而后使之博览",强调的重点是"尊德性"。因为朱、陆二人各执己见,相互攻讦,所以,辩论一开始,陆九龄就赋诗:"留情传注翻榛塞,着意精微转陆沉";陆九渊接着和诗:"易简功夫终久大,支离事业竟浮沉"。所谓"陆沉"、"支离",都是陆氏兄弟对理学方法烦琐破碎的讥讽。会议最终不欢而散。事隔数年,朱熹才回敬了一诗。这次争论在理论上反映了心学唯心主义同理学唯心主义的分歧。
