模具维护管理的必要性及重点
即使变动成形品的尺寸等，调整成形条件，在现场仍然经常可以发现「毛边和短射不断出现」的情形，而这正是影响成形品品质的要因(成形压力、热、模具的损耗等)的话，又是暂时可以变更的成形条件时，而无法有所改进。
维护的原文是「maintain」，(是为维持在最初设定状态下而采取的手段)之意思。
因此，必须是能考虑到预防维护的设计，而模具虽然是这种设计，但若末进行掌握重点的维护时，自然无法得到当初之效果。
主要的维护位置及项目为:
模具PL面
模具的摺动部
模穴、蕊面
螺栓的松弛
冷却水孔
防电热器的断线等
而维护的频度及处理方法，会随树脂的种类、循环周期、模具构造、模具材质、模具温度、制品精度等而有所改变。
例如，POM(聚醛树脂(polyacetal))般容易产生气体的材料，若不进行PL面气体排沟、模穴蕊的清扫，气体的排出就会较差，成形品就会产生毛边、短射、熔痕、糊斑并产生尺寸变化。
而，PC(聚碳酸脂(Polycarbonate)般硬而脆的材料，容易发生浇口的切断废料，废料会附着在模穴面或PL面上，而成为表面缺陷。
摺动部(例如引导梢及引导衬套等)若没有油膜，就会产生烧附(毛边)，所以必须涂润滑剂，但润滑剂太多又会飞散，反而对制品品质产生不良影响，应特别注意。
含难燃材料等级则易产生腐蚀性气体(卤气、氯气)，若不管模穴蕊的腐蚀，就会形成尺寸缺陷及表面缺陷。
所以，模具的维护程度，通常都会直接影响到成形品的品质，而因为每个制品的重点都不相同，依每一个类似品来建立体制化并进行管理是非常重要的。
连续生产品应定期进行维护，断续生产品则在一个批量生产後一定要进行维护，使其在下一个生产开始时为可使用的初期状态。
制造现场之模具维护管理概念
本公司的模具，几乎都是7~40吨等的树脂、淬火模具。因为经常进行淬火，流道有时会挟住制品，但PL面及模穴蕊却不易破损，咬切部份的损耗也就较少。
维护有日常进行及定期进行，都依照「模具维护作业顺序表」进行，并以「模具检查表」确认并作业後，再将每一个制品项目记载於记录表上。
这个记录是模具的记录，在以後的检查上有很大的帮助。维护上的要点在於，在固定的必要频率及时间下，认真执行。
1·因维护而能安定成形的实例
齿轮振动精度±0.0O5mm的齿轮，发生振动、受损、毛边等不良，一模4穴成形的模具，持续只有1个或2个的成形。起初，是以在现场改变成形条件来处理，问题仍然存在，货仍然交不出去，顾客要求尽快解决问题。当初，由熟练者调整模具，也能顺利进行制品成形，但连续生产後，就陆续重复发生各种问题。
