常绿灌木,高1—4m。叶互生,常5—7片集生枝顶;叶片革质,长椭圆形或倒卵状长圆形,长4—11cm,宽1.5—4cm,先端短渐尖或渐尖,基部楔形,幼时边缘密被刚毛状缘毛,后无毛,中脉上面凹下,下面隆起,网脉明显;叶柄长7—12mm,上面有浅沟,无毛。伞形花序假顶生,有花3—6朵;花梗长约2cm,密被有腺头的刚毛;花萼5深裂,裂片线状披针形;花冠粉红色,狭漏斗状,长约3.7cm,无毛;雄蕊10,花丝近基部有柔毛,子房密生腺刚毛。蒴果圆柱形,长3—4.5cm,径约0.4cm,稍弯曲。
  花期4月。果期10—11月。
  产中国浙江、江西、福建、湖南、广东和广西。生于海拔300—800m的山坡、山麓林中、林缘。种子繁殖。
  弯蒴杜鹃花多而艳丽,适宜园林中地栽观赏。
