用环状密封体阻塞泄漏间隙的可用于往复或旋转运动的接触式动密封（见图）。环状密封体即密封环，用橡胶或塑料制成。密封环在安装沟槽中受到预压缩，工作时受工作介质压力作用后产生自紧作用。密封环按形状分为：O型密封环、X型密封环、唇型密封环、Y型密封环和V型密封环。O 型密封环结构简单，重量轻，具有双向密封能力，密封性能好，使用压力范围大，广泛用于液压、气压和真空设备的动密封中。但用于直径大、行程长的往复运动件时，O 型密封环容易扭转变形，往复速度高时会产生泄漏；旋转速度大时橡胶易因摩擦热而老化。X 型密封环抗扭能力强。唇型密封环的唇部与轴贴紧，在工作介质压力作用下有显著的自紧作用，密封效果好,广泛用于低压密封。Y型密封环高度大,刚性好，主要用于较高的往复式密封中。V型密封环适用于直径较大、速度较高、行程较长的往复式密封，在压力高时可多环重叠使用。
