地理系统分析中一种最常见的方法。因地理系统内部的复杂性，在不涉及状态变量关系的前提下，只从系统输入与输出之间建立联系的解析方法。可有效地对地理系统进行宏观的、综合的和总体的认识。与地理黑箱分析相对应的数学工具，是地理系统方法，它在一定的物理意义指导下，寻求激励函数（系统输入）与响应函数（系统输出）之间的相关特性，以单一的或向量的形式，反映地理系统在结构与功能上的总效应，并识别系统的“转换能力”、“传递能力”、“过滤能力”和“改造能力”。地理系统黑箱分析可解决3类基本问题：①系统相对直接的预测问题，由输入变量和系统效应二者确定系统输出；②具备相对粗略的系统识别能力，由输入变量和输出变量二者去确定系统特性；③相对解决系统输入信号的侦检问题，由系统特性和输出变量，确定系统的输入变量。地理黑箱分析的缺点是无法深刻揭示系统内部的运转机制，在大多数情况下，不能进行动态描述。但因简单明确，取得数据容易，能够得到近似准确的结果，故受到广泛重视。
