| 墨西哥湾 Mexico，Gulf of 大西洋伸入北美大陆东南部的一个海湾。位于墨西哥、美国和古巴之间。呈半圆形，东西长约1609千米，南北宽约1287千米，面积154.3万平方千米，是仅次于孟加拉湾的世界第二大海湾。平均深度1512米，最大水深5203米。墨西哥的尤卡坦半岛和美国的佛罗里达半岛环抱海湾湾口，古巴岛伸居湾口中部，把湾口分为佛罗里达海峡和尤卡坦海峡，成为墨西哥湾连接大西洋和加勒比海的水道，在航运贸易、战略上具有重要意义。海湾北部和西北部有密西西比河和格兰德河，每年带来大量泥沙，在河口形成巨大三角洲，密西西比河三角洲外还有水下冲积扇。沿海多沙质海岸，有沙嘴、沙洲、沙堤，沙堤与海岸间还形成一系列潟湖和小湾。海湾大陆架较宽，除西侧较窄外，一般都在200～280千米。北部和西北部大陆架上蕴藏着丰富的石油和天然气资源，业已开采。海湾表层水温较高，夏季最热月为29℃，冬季最冷月为20～24℃，比同纬度大西洋的水温高2～3℃，这是海湾地处热带和副热带、深居内陆以及赤道暖流流入的结果。海水盐度为36～36.9。加勒比海暖流穿过尤卡坦海峡流入墨西哥湾中形成顺时针洋流，从佛罗里达海峡流出进入大西洋，成为湾流的起始段。墨西哥湾沿岸有休斯敦、新奥尔良、坦帕、坦皮科、哈瓦那等重要港口。
