argon
    一种化学元素   。化学符号Ar  ,原子序数18  ,原子量39.948,属周期系零族,为稀有气体的成员之一。1784年英国H.卡文迪什曾从空气中获得氩,但未确认。1894年英国瑞利和W.拉姆齐重复了卡文迪什的实验,并用光谱分析证实这种气体是一种新元素,取名argon。含义是“懒惰”。氩在地球大气中的含量为0.934%   ,有3种同位素:氩40、氩36、氩38。氩是无色、无臭、无味的气体,熔点-189.2℃,沸点-185.7℃,气体密度1.784克/升(0℃,1×105帕),在水中的溶解度33.6厘米3/千克水 。氩可由液态空气分馏制得。氩不能燃烧,也不助燃,用作电弧焊接不锈钢、镁、铝的惰性保护气体。也作为惰性气体填充日光灯、电灯泡、光电管等,延长灯丝寿命。
