利用X线的穿透性和感光作用，把被检部位的结构在胶片上显影。X线片图像清晰，能够显示细微结构，可作为教学与科研资料永久保存，也利于以后复查时对比，对比较厚的人体组织部位如脊柱、头颅、骨盆也能检查。缺点为价格稍贵、无法多轴位观察，不能判断脏器的功能。
