形态计量术(morphometry)是运用数学和统计学原理对组织和细胞内各种成分的数量、体积、表面积等的相对值与绝对值的测量,其中以研究组织和细胞内某种结构的三维立体结构的研究称体视学(sterology)。传统的方法是将规则的测试系统 (点、线、方格等)投影或覆盖在一张张连续切片上,将平面测量的数据,按数学原理和公式推算出立体结构数值,经过微机处理,重新建立起立体形象；当今，则应用图像分析仪(image analyzer) 进行组织,细胞三维结构及定量分析的研究，目前已获得了大量研究成果,如正常人肺泡量和表面积、肾小体数目和体积、胰岛的数量及其各类细胞的数值、小肠上皮细胞微绒毛的数量及其表面积等。组织化学和免疫组织化学染色、荧光素染色、放射自显影以及原位杂交等标本均可应用图像分析仪测定其光密度值进行定量分析。这些数值以“量”的概念阐述了结构与功能的关系及病理状态下的变化。
