形态特征:川续断科刺冬属多年生草本植物。根状茎或长或短，围以黑褐色枯死叶鞘;主根粗长稍肉质。茎直立。叶对生，披针形或长圆状披针形，长7-15厘米，宽8-20毫米，边缘具长刺状纤毛。6-7月开花，轮伞花序1节，似呈疏松头状花序，副萼筒状，长约6毫米，顶具约16条、长3-6毫米的芒刺;花萼筒状，全长10-15毫米，口斜切;花冠长漏斗形，全长18-32毫米，紫红色至粉红色，筒部长16-28毫米。
生境分布:生于海拔3200-4500米的山坡草地、草甸、灌丛或林下、林缘。分布于西藏、云南、四川。缅甸、印度、不丹至尼泊尔也有。
用途:全草药月，治胃痛等症。外用治疮痈肿痛。
