性质：流体流过固体壁面时，无论主流中的湍动如何强烈，紧靠着固体壁面处总是保持一层作层流流动的流体薄层，即为层流内(底)层。它像一层膜一样覆盖在壁面上，称为流体膜或层流膜。在壁面与流体之间的传热过程中，热只能借传导作用通过流体膜(在流体主体中才有对流作用)。因此，流体主体与壁面之间的温度差大部分集中在流体膜内，即流体膜为传热主要阻力之所在。在固体壁面与流体之间的传质过程中，物质通过流体膜只能借分子扩散作用，传质的阻力也大部分集中在膜内。双膜论进一步假定两流体的界面两侧也各有一层流体膜。这一假定虽未经实验验证，但利用它可以将两相间的传质用类似于处理间壁两侧流体传热的方式来处理，而得到大体上符合实际的结果。
