哈佛大学医学院的研究人员对47000多位男性的饮食习惯和前列腺病史进行分析后发现，每周至少有两餐吃番茄制品的人患前列腺癌的危险性降低了24%，降至36%。
这项研究支持了早先有关食物特别是番茄制品的研究。番茄富含番茄红素，这是一种高效的抗氧化剂。研究人员认为，番茄红素能够吸收无氧基；这种在新陈代谢过程中产生的化学物质会破坏细胞的遗传结构。
