群众(c rowd)人们彼此由共同的情绪状态或注意对象而维持联系的、无组织的、偶然的、暂时性的聚合。群众具有下列六种特征:(l)成员间彼此躯体接近、接触互动频繁，彼此间很容易将自己的情绪、态度或行为传染给对方。因此，暂时性的团体—群众其成员一旦形成，彼此间将分享共同的情绪并作出相同的反应。(2)成员间有着共同的利益和对某一事物的共同兴趣。(3)群众是一时性存在的团体，当某一共同利益达到后，或兴趣消失时，就自行消亡解散。(4)参与群众与否，完全由偶然的因素决定。(5)参与这种临时性团体的分子是匿名的。(6)群众的分子容易受群众心理影响，或为感情所左右。群众的形式(或性质)具有四种不同的类型:(l)偶集型群众，其特征表现为暂时而无组织。其分子组成自由来去，对于引起兴趣的事物只有暂时的兴趣，分子间的互动也限于最低程度。(2)因袭型群众，例如运动场上的观众。这种群众的行为基本上与偶集型群众相似，所不同点表现在它是按照制度或是传统的方式而成立，而偶集型的群众则是临时产生的非制度下的产物。(3)行动型群众，这是一种具有侵他性的群众，有着一定的目标。例如革命群众与私刑暴众。(4)抒情型群众或舞蹈型群众。例如，原始民族举行宗教仪式时的舞蹈群众，或狂欢节上的欢庆群众。其特征是其情绪冲动表现在身体的运动中，完全为求自身的轻松、愉快与自山，而不将目标指向于‘外。 (林朱赞撰沈德灿甲)
