用体温监测仪检查不同部位的体温。部位有鼻咽、鼓室、食管下段、心脏和直肠。各部位的温度可间接代表某器官的温度。如鼻咽、鼓室的温度与脑温度近似。食管下段温度代表心脏温度。直肠温度，指示身体内部中心的体温。各部位温度的监测均有其特定的意义：监测食管下段温度，可预防严重心律失常的出现；鼻咽与鼓室的温度，可指示循环阻断后中枢神经系统对缺氧的安全时限；直肠温度能指示复温时中断复温的安全体温。因此，低温时最好同时选择几个部位进行体温监测。目前所用的体温监测仪，其范围为0～50℃，误差约为±0.5℃，测温探头有5～10个，可以满足临床要求。
