目前临床上介入医学应用最广的主要有以下几种：
经导管动脉栓塞术和经导管动脉内化疗栓塞术。它主要用于晚期肿瘤的治疗。其特点是适应症宽，副作用相对较小，治疗效果可靠。因为它可准确地将药物注入病变部位，对全身其它组织影响不大。
经皮血管成形术血管内支架术。它主要用于治疗冠心病，可以使狭窄或闭塞的冠状动脉再通，使病变心脏重获生机和活力。这种效果是任何先进的内科药物都无法达到的。
动脉内溶栓术。可用于急性梗塞性脑卒中和急性心肌梗塞，使凝固的栓子彻底溶化，恢复血管畅通，从根本上祛除病因。这一技术近年来不知道挽救了多少人的生命。而在过去，脑卒中和心肌梗塞的致死率和致残率都极高，内科医生仅仅能作保守治疗而已。
用于疑难病例的确诊。如经皮穿刺活检、血管造影术用于判断血管畸形等，可使诊断准确率大大提高。
取代部分外科手术。避免手术带来的出血多、创伤大等问题，为病人准确而轻桷地解决病情。如椎间盘切除术、胆道和泌尿系结石碎石术、深部组织引流术等。
根据专家预测，随着人类基因组计划的完成，人类疾病的诊疗概念将发生根本扭转。通过介入医学的方法，不但可方便地获取人体任一组织、器官的标本，而且可准确地将治疗基因导入靶器官内。到那时，介入医学必将带给我们更加美好的前景！(2000.12.13)
