| 胡颓子科 Elaeagnaceae 双子叶植物纲蔷薇亚纲的一科。灌木或乔木，稀为藤本，被银白色或褐色至锈色盾形鳞片，有的有星状绒毛。单叶互生，稀对生或轮生，全缘。花单生或几朵组成腋生伞形花序或短总状花序；两性或单性，整齐，淡白色或黄褐色，具香气，花萼常联合成筒，顶端 4裂（胡颓子属）或2裂（沙棘属），在子房上面缢缩；无花瓣；雄蕊与花萼裂片同数，生于萼筒喉部（胡颓子属），或为花萼裂片倍数，生于萼筒基部（沙棘属），子房上位，包被于萼筒内，1心皮1胚珠。瘦果或坚果，为增厚而肉质的萼筒所包被，核果状。
有3属，80余种，主要分布于亚洲东南部热带和亚热带的丘陵或低海拔地区，亚洲其他地区、欧洲和北美洲也有。中国有2属57种，广布全国。经济价值较大，是野生核果类植物，多数种类果实含丰富的维生素、糖类和有机酸。可生食及作果酱、果糕、果汁和酿酒。翅果油树的种仁（子叶）含油脂，油可食用及工业用。有许多种类可作药用。胡颓子属还有一些种是著名的庭园观赏花木或绿篱。中国北方常用沙棘和沙枣作固沙造林植物。该科形态结构与瑞香科相近似，大多数分类学家把它归入瑞香目。 |
