是一种疏水性酸性糖蛋白，含十余种氨基酸。相对分子质量：人骨为17684、牛骨为18000、猪骨为19700，在皮质骨中含量极微，提取困难。其诱导成骨机制在于：它能与间充质类细胞的细胞膜表面受体相结合，使细胞表面静电荷改变，而使DNA发生新的序列，向成骨性细胞方向分化。
